Remember when I told you the best compliment I ever received was from my then 4 year old son who said I was “better than chocolate milk“? Well, not everything that comes out of his sweet little mouth is that endearing.
Today:
Kiddo: “mom, since my birthday is in the summer, I wanna have a WATER PARK BIRTHDAY! YEAH! That would be AWESOME!”
Me: “I don’t know, honey, it’s a lot of responsibility to take kids swimming, I’m not sure if I wanna be in charge of watching a dozen kids at a pool somewhere”
Kiddo: “well, if you do, make sure you buy a bathing suit that covers your… you know… pregnancy marks. Cause that would be gross”.
Me, sarcastically: “I’ll be sure to do that.”
kiddo walks off.
kiddo comes back. “I mean, I would like you to get a bathing suit like Princess Leia, but you’re too fatish in your tummy. But I do like those.”
I took more flea market friday pictures and thought I’d post them so you could get a peek. I was so excited to find these two vintage prom or party gowns from a vintage clothing dealer recently. She knows what I like and points them out to me as soon as I walk in the little shop. Isn’t that fun? Both of these are vintage, but I have no idea of exact age because they were lovingly hand made by the mother of the lady who sold them to the dealer. They are so gorgeous.
The only thing I did to them was add a millinery flower to each one for you… because I just knew you’d like that!
My beautiful sister came by last night to model these for me. Sorry for the poor quality of some of the pictures, but I was holding her very unhappy 12 week old baby in one arm and clicking the camera with the other hand! That considered, we’re lucky we got any pictures at all. By the way…. can you even BELIEVE this girl just had her THIRD baby a mere 12 weeks ago?! She’s such a hotty!
OK, I’ll see you gals tomorrow, 7:30 pm central time.
Sort of a random post today, just thought you might like to see some of my little collections from around the house. You’ve probably seen some of it before but maybe arranged differently, I can’t remember.
The photo above is the view from my living room into my kitchen. I love this cabinet against the wall here. It’s my favorite thing ever. LOL.
Inside are some of my favorite little things.
I love this small collection of vintage wedding things. I paid between $1 and $6 each for these. Not valuable, but so delicious when they’re all grouped en masse like this. I also just love all the pretty creamy and peachy pink colors in here.
On top of the cabinet are apothecary jars with my collection of vintage millinery inside.
Here is another vignette of the vintage baskets I pick up when I can.
I just love to see things grouped together, it makes so much more of an impact than if you just have them scattered here and there.
OK, I’m off to do the dishes that I left on the counter last night. Bad. SO bad.
The holidays were such a hectic time, I just couldn’t even think about trying to gather and post beautiful things for you for Flea Market Fridays, but now that we’re over that hump, I think I’m ready to start again! But, instead of killing myself to do it every week, I’m going to do the Flea Market on the first Friday of every month. That means this Friday! Here is a sneak peek of a few things I’ll be listing. It will all go up for sale at 7:30 central time.
These are just SOME of the things that will be listed, there are some other wonderful things that I haven’t taken pictures of yet, including a pair of frosted aqua glass lamps with tiny pink enamel hand painted flowers…. so darling.
Also this week, I’m doing a few ebay auctions. I used to do them all the time but I don’t much like doing them so I kinda quit. But, I have a few interesting things that may do well there, so I’m giving it a shot. If you’d like to take a peek, here is the link to my auctions under ebay seller name hollydoodledesigns.
here is a peek at the auctions:
Some great old Italian Tole pieces and beautiful vintage celluloid ring boxes, just in time for the biggest engagement day of the year, February 14!
I’m also working away on more little Nesting Baskets and the Easter Carts. I’ll let you know when they’re listed.
Tomorrow I’ll be back with some beautiful vignettes from around the house. I’m going to show you some of the things that have inspired me….. and most of my little collections of things are nothing expensive, just fun and beautiful!
*edit* The error with the shipping rates has been corrected! Sorry about that!**
This time, I’m not just teasing you! These are officially for sale in the “NESTING SERIES” section over there in the sidebar to the right. Hope you like them! Sweet little nest baskets.
These little treasures are about 5 inches tall and give new meaning to the phrase “good things come in small packages”. These little darlings are COVERED in beautiful vintage millinery flowers, a sweet Mama glittery dove, ribbons and little eggs.
The glitter on the Mama bird is not glitter at all, it is pure sterling silver shavings…. jewelers grade.
I just love these. I hope you do too! Also, on Sunday I’ll be putting up the special order form for the larger Nesting Boxes. And, if I’m REALLY organized, maybe one or two other things.
See ya tomorrow!
Oh, by the way, I know I’ll get a lot of questions about it, so to let you know, I got that fabulous pure silver glitter from Heather at Pretty Petals. I LOVE it.
In my last post I showed the vintage easter craft I received as a gift. Here are more pictures of some of the things I’m making inspired by this sweet cart.
I love winter, I really do. I love the fall, with the kids getting excited about school, then the fun of halloween, the festivities that start with Thanksgiving, and all the fun build up to Christmas. I love to wear fuzzy sweaters and sparkly earrings and hope for snow. Until December 26. After Christmas, the novelty of the cold wears off with me, and fast! Problem is, here in Oklahoma, we’re just gettin started. It’s been 17 degrees every morning when I take my son to school. That’s just ridiculous.
So, I’ve been very SPRINGY in my crafting lately. I’m sure you’ve noticed! he he…. Nests, and birdies and even Easter is on my mind. The picture at the top of the post is of the most amazing vintage Easter craft made by the grandmother of one of my dear friends. It was given to me as a gift last year because they knew I would cherish it. They were right. Isn’t it darling!? She made hers out of a real goose egg! Ever since receiving this wonderful gift, I’ve wanted to do a version of it myself. Here is my first attempt. It’s a paper mache egg with a plastic lining of some sort that I painted, primped and posy-ed. I need to tweak it a bit… and I have some better suited bunnies on their way, but I think it turned out pretty cute.
It was fun to try something like this. Fun to look for the bits and pieces that it would take to mimick a craft made who knows how many years ago.
I will have some of these for sale soon too. I know I keep saying that, but I’m trying to have a few things ready to go and just do a nice site update. I promise I’m working on it!
Outside Old Man Winter is blowing his frigid breath at my windows, sneaking in through the tiny cracks in my doors, but his icey hands won’t claim my heart tonight! I’m singing “In Your Easter Bonnet” and playing with pastels. I’m happy.
Seriously. Sometimes the tiniest thing makes me ridiculously happy.
I made this. This one tiny pink velvet strawberry. I made it with a snippet of vintage pink velvet that I salvaged off of something, vintage green millinery velvet leaf, and ribbon from One Hundred Wishes, Andrea Singarella’s website (which I hear will be reopening some time soon!). Andrea is the queen of velvet strawberries, so it’s fitting her ribbon tops my little stem. I have some other vintage ones too, but this one I MADE. Pretty impressive, considering I had no pattern, had not planned to make it, and my sewing machine is broken. I love it. I have a little more of the velvet so I plan to make as many as I can and just look at them and love them.
I mentioned that I’m working on a series of my little nests. Here is another one I’ve been working on. I’m going to try to have these, the boxes, and a few other nest and spring/Easter things listed by the end of next week.
Isn’t this little mama sweet? I call her “Lady In Waiting”. Awww… I had this idea back when my sister was preggers with my now 3 year old niece. Took me a while to finally do it! Again, check back in a week if you think you can’t live without one.
More round robin pages too…
this little tag says “march of the flowergirls” in French. Ohhh~la~la
foget me not…
And I am super excited about my AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL new blog banner made for me by Heather Bluhm of Bluhm Studios. I am always amazed by Heather’s talent. She’s so easy to work with too. I love it, Heather, thank you! You rock.
Heather is having a huge give-away on her blog right now for her 515th post. She’s also trying to raise support and awareness for her dear friend, Bernie, who is in the running for a huge grant for the charity she runs for abandoned animals. Check it out!
OK, I think I’ll finally go take a shower for the first time today. Hey, it’s only 3:00 in the afternoon!
I’ve been playing with little vignettes around my house lately and thought I would show you some of the things that have been making me smile as I make my rounds around the house every day.
The picture above is of a vintage nut cup. I love these. This one is the perfect shade of faded pink. But it looked sorta silly all alone, so I put her in a pile-o-buttons and now she looks all artsy and cute.
Here’s a sweet little vignette I put together using a millinery arch I made, a little pottery swan and a tiny porcelain baby doll that I got in my Easter Basket when I was little. Isn’t she cute?
My newest fave thing is this:
I had these frames for sale but decided I just couldn’t part with them and I hung them in my kitchen and put large platters inside. Just hung them on the wall. Now I change whatever I hang inside them on a whim. I love them!
I added vintage millinery flowers to the top and it makes them more special.
It makes me happy to see them in my kitchen every day. Such a fun and whimsical way to use vintage frames.
