hearts of stone: love tokens from a kindergartner

hearts-of-stone-small.jpg

Collected by my 6 year old on the play ground throughout the school year.  Better than diamonds.  I would eventually like to do something like the wonderful shadowbox that Pam recently blogged about.

Wishing everyone a safe holiday weekend.  I’m saying a prayer of thanks for the sacrifice of so many for my freedoms.  And a prayer of comfort for the families who have suffered the loss of a loved one, the ultimate sacrifice, in service to our country.  Thank you.

well hello!

hi.jpg

Hi!

Trying to figure out how to get better pictures from my camera.  Was trying to get a decent self-portrait.  As you can see, I was a little wonky and blurry, but then it kinda made me laugh, so now I like it!

pink-stuff.jpg

This is a little nook in my bathroom.  See how it’s blurry?  It’s driving me crazy.  Maybe I just drink too much coffee.  Although, I’m glad to report, I think I’ve kicked my diet coke addiction.  Water water water for me latey.  But, once again, I digress!

And under the “random stuff around the house” category, a cute little bookcase.  Whatever, I don’t know.  ha ha… sippy cup in the background.

My class yesterday was so much fun!  We giggled about the creepy baby scarecrow (see last 2 posts), boobs and other body parts, men, philosophy, marriage, family, and a million other things.  It was a great day with great girls.  Oh, and we did a little crafting too!  Two of those girls, Robin and Jemellia are coming to my house on Wednesday.  Eeee… I’m so excited!  I wish I had a picture to show you.  They are so lovely.  So of course, now I have to clean house for the next few days so I can fool them into thinking that I’m a neat-nick.  They’re so much fun, I can’t wait.  You have to check out their blogs and etsy accounts.  Jemellia is an amazing seamstress.  You should see the clothing she makes for her beautiful little girl.  Robin makes beautiful dolls, as well as gorgeous knitted treasures.  I bought a neck wrap from her at the beginning of T-ball season.  Oh my gosh, it’s so beautiful and it made those first few FREEZING games so much more pleasant!  I was warm and chic!  So check em out.

I hope you had a great weekend!  This is the last week of school for us.  I am doing the summer-is-here dance, baby!  Oh yeah.  So ready.  Except for the bathing suit part.  That’s torture.

Thanks for all the bedding love in the last post.  I will keep you posted as I progress!  And I’d love to see your bedrooms too, so leave me a blog link to your bedroom pictures so I can come brouse around.  Also, thanks for laughing at my creepy baby scarecrow.  My mom called tonight and was just so tickled about the doll, she said I should name it and make it a funny thing with the kids that we say hello to the thing every time we walk outside.  So funny…. can’t you see us dressing it up at halloween and stringing lights up there at Christmas and it becoming like this weird icon of my kids’ childhood?  Ha ha!

Tomorrow is the day for the cake box class at Paper Crown in Oklahoma City.  It’s at 1:00.  I got word today there was a last minute cancelation, so if you want to come there are now 2 open spots!  Call (405)848-2389 if you’d like to join me.

If you’re coming, please remember to bring your glue gun!  And some scissors.  Everything else is provided for you.

bedroom: a work in progress. and a funny story.

a-bed-3.jpg

So I’ve been trying to make my bedroom a more peaceful, cohesive place to be.  Instead of the laundry dump/wasteland/treadmill zone it usually is.  I still have the treadmill and a hugely too huge huge huge humungus TV cabinet my husband actually made in about 1996 or so, and purposely stained a color I HATED!  But I’m not bitter.  He’s painting it this summer.  Because now he agrees I’m right (or at least he’s tired of this one being on “the list” of annoyances for the past 12 years).  Ahem…. I digress….. That is on the other side of the room, but I won’t show you the messy stuff, just the bed area today.

a-bed-4.jpg

Last week was my birthday.  As a gift to myself, I finally splurged on some good bedding.  My mother would tell me to iron it, but I’m not gonna.  Thankfully, I like it a bit rumpled.  This is by House Inc. and it is Pom Pom Sky.  I’m going to add some other patterns, but I am doing it a little at a time.  So for now, it’s a bit pale and icey, but I will be warming it up with some other House Inc patterns, as well as some beige velvet and a tiered ruffle bedskirt, etc.  Also lamps would be nice.  And something OVER the bed.  And a mirror over the table on my side…. and lots more!  But this is the beginning.

a-bed-5.jpg

Isn’t my old bed cool?  We’ve had it for several years.  We sleep on a queen size mattress, but it’s a full size headboard and footboard.  We just nixed the original rails and it works great.  Beautiful old rose appliques, not the new ones.  There are some problems, when my oldest was younger he was OBSESSED with torturing me by tearing holes in the wicker-y area of the footboard.  Don’t really know how I’ll deal with repairing that someday, so I kinda hide it for now.

On my husband’s side, I tried to be more manly.  What with the darker old frames and the globe and all.  He appreciates it.  I think.  He does LOVE the bedding.  It’s so super comfy!  By the way, it’s a duvet cover.  I will never buy a comforter again.  Duvet all the way!  You can unzip it and throw it in the wash.  It’s so hard to WASH a comforter.  The insert is just a white duvet insert from Target, it was about $30.00 and it’s so comfy.  I love it.

a-bed-2.jpg

So anyhoo, thought I’d show you my progress.  It’s so much better than it was!  I’ve even MADE MY BED every day for the week or so I’ve had the new bedding.  We’ll see how long that lasts!

Ok, now for the funny…..

In an effort to keep birds from nesting in the eaves of our covered front porch, my husband has placed a naked baby doll up there.  He thinks it will work as a scarecrow.  So now, not only do I have bird crap all over my porch, I also have a freaky naked doll staring through the glass on my front door.  And what’s funny is the birds don’t even CARE about the doll!  There were 2 birds on the porch beside the doll, until I ran out there with a camera.  And still my husband won’t take the dumb doll down.  My life is so hilarious.

See, like right here the thing is secretly thinking “i’m going to pluck your eyeballs out with my oddly strong rubber arms”

I think I need to go to sleep.  I’m getting kinda kooky.

It’s always watching!

i may not be martha, but i did make rice cream cones today.

krispie-cones.jpg

This was super DUPER easy.  It’s the rice krispies treat recipe, then you scoop it in a cone while it’s still warm, put a little dab of melted chocolate on top and a red M&M “cherry” to finish it off.  Viola!  Rice Cream Cones!  I made that up, all by myself, just now.  I think this should get me out of laundry duty for at least one day.  I may milk it for a little longer.  After all, I did make about 30 of these!  (Just fyi…. I actually tried to make brownies in the cones and was going to top with whip cream or icing, uhm, did NOT work.  They burned on the tops before the inside could cook.  I probaby did something wrong.  So I remembered how you can’t mess up rice krispies treats and then I was home free.)

Have a happy weekend!

just thought i’d let you know that….
